SMS

On the website http://www.britishcouncil.org/thailand-english-mobile-everyday.htm you can subscribe for an SMS-service. Every day you will receive an SMS containing useful vocabulary, expressions and learning tips in English. The cost is 1 baht per day.

Podcasts

On the website http://www.listen-to-english.com every week, you can download a podcast in which you can listen to an English spoken text for about 5 minutes . These podcasts can help to progress in pronunciation and vocabulary. Some teachers installed these MP3-files on their mobile phones.

The website of the British Council contains tools and tips and tricks (f.e. how to organise a role play ‘Going to the market’). Are also available: useful documents, comments and scores of other users of the tool. For Thai-people the site www.howjsay.com is very useful because you can hear how words are pronounced.

Music game

Purpose:
The purpose is to rehearse the new vocabulary and to enforce the making of full sentences with this new vocabulary.

You need

- Music cd
- A cap
- Questions about the subject of the day or other

Procedure

Phase 1

Make two teams
All students sit in a big circle. Teams are mixed.
Put the questions in a box

phase 2 Play the music, students pass the cap,

Phase 3 When the music stops, the student who has the cap picks a question

phase 3 if the answer is correct, the team of this student gets a point

phase 4 the team with the most points wins

Evaluation of the tool: the students participate very well and are very excited. There is also a physical element that enhances the participation.

Blind game

Purpose:
The purpose is to guide a blinded student to a card put on the floor. After some explanation about the vocabulary about positions (above, under, …), sizes (big, small) and giving instructions (go to the left, go to the right, pick up the card …), they learn to make sentences.

You need

- picture cards
- Coloured numbered cards (one team, one colour)

Procedure

phase 1

Make two teams
The two teams are sitting in front of each other
Each member of the team receives a card with a number

phase 2

The picture cards are put upside down on the floor in the middle of the class

phase 3

The teacher calls out a number. The eyes of the 2 students are covered

phase 4

The teacher indicates a picture card for each team

phase 5

Each member of the team gives one instruction to the blinded student.

phase 6

When the blinded student is close to the card, he picks it up and shows it to his colleagues.

phase 7

The students of that team can write the right word on the white board

phase 8

If the word is not correct the other team can give the answer
If the answer is correct, this team gets the point.

phase 9

The team that has most points, is the winner

Evaluation of the tool: the students participate very well. There is also a physical element that enhances this participation. The students are excited.
